Having fun being creative.

Emma is so cute when she writes.  She says she is writing her ABC's and she really does look like she is writing not drawing.  She uses very small controlled movements not the large messy drawing like other toddlers.  She also concentrates really hard when she is writing.  I guess you just have to see it.  Here's for posterity sake any way.

Since we don't have any grandparents who live near us we have adopted several wonderful people to stand in for us.  Jim and Iris have been apart of our lives since James and I were married.  We love them.  They love all things interesting and they love to share these things with us.  We share a common bond of gardening.

We stopped by the other day for a spontaneous picnic in the woods.  Iris was kind enough to join us for our outing.  After eating lots of yummy fruit we took pictures in the garden, planted cucumbers in pots,  and searched for treasure (marbles buried in dirt).  It was a lovely afternoon.

So the other day Emma and I were finishing the dishes.  After I wiped down the sink Emma grabbed the cloth and started wiping down the counter.  Then she moved to the window sill, then the window, cleared out the cabinet, wiped it down, and reorganized it.  Mind you she did all of this on her own with no prompting by me.  All I can say is I hope this is a trend that continues.  She certainly didn't get this from me.

Open the door mommy

So a funny thing happened today.  Evan and Emma have recently been introduced to gum and they LOVE IT!!!  To my surprise they actually handle it quite well.  We have a rule that they only get one piece a day so they take very good care of that one piece.

Well today not long after Evan was presented with his one piece he accidentally swallowed it.  He was just devastated.  He kept and kept and kept asking for more gum.  But being the mean mother that I am I would not cave to the one piece a day rule.

So then his little mind began to think of other ways he could get his piece of gum back.  He walks up to me with this frantic look in his eyes, lifts up his shirt, points to his belly button and insists that I open the door.  "Open the door, open the door mommy, I want gum out."  How could I not chuckle at such a innocent and thoughtful request.

Sorry Buddy, that door is closed for good.

Silly Things

We do some pretty silly things around our house.

One day we even had a whole "silly day".  Evan and Emma had pig tails all over their heads.  We played with pillows and just acted silly all day.  It was a lot of fun.

Another silly thing we did was build a snowman in Georgia in March.  Now that is really silly.  It was a lot of fun playing in the snow especially when it is so rare.

We had all reached our limits with the cold at this point so nobody looks very happy, but we really did have a lot of fun.

We also like to pudding paint.  It took a lot of convincing that the fun was in making the mess and that it was not a total waste of perfectly good pudding.

Then there was the #10 can race around the kitchen.  The kids discovered that they could scoot themselves around the kitchen on the food storage cans.  That kept them silly for quite some time.

Oh then there is Emma's silly hair.  She has this tuft of hair that long enough to get into her eyes.  However the only other hair that  is long enough to do anything with is on the very back of her head.  She also resists the accessories in the hair idea.  I have had to resort to plain bands (harder to pull-out) holding her tuft of hair up on top of her head.  I hate to say it but some times it does look pretty silly.  Good thing she is so cute!

Well that is enough silliness for now.  What silly things do you like to do?
